Dear friends,I’m writing with an update on the status of our business. In January we were informed that our landlord, Wickfield Properties, was selling the buildings currently known as Detroit Street Filling Station and North Star Lounge (this does not affect our third location — The Lunch Room Bakery & Cafe in Huron Towers Apartments). We were given first opportunity to purchase, but the asking price is out of our reach. We were also given an opportunity to sign a new 5-year lease, but have not felt comfortable locking in with our current lease terms. Business is challenging these days — in part due to the national economic downturn and in part due to the ongoing construction and other factors encumbering downtown Ann Arbor. Ideally we would continue into the future with a landlord that will care both for the buildings and for the business. And that is why I’m appealing to you, our community, to see if there is someone out there who loves this business and all that we stand for, and has the resources to partner with us and help us survive into the future.
